Dr. Traci’s House is working to improve lives by connecting plants, people, and community with our Community Garden. Our goal is to educate children, families and adults on the importance of plants and healthy fruits and vegetables through hands-on discussions in our garden and kitchen.
Community Workshops
We offer hands-on instruction that teaches fundamental concepts for growing food and plants that thrive in our area. These hands on classes are given throughout the year.
Class topics include:
Bed Preparation and Soil Awareness
Composting
Plant Selection
Planting, Maintaining and Harvesting Your Garden
Irrigation
How to Prepare and Eat your Harvest!
Children’s Garden and Nutrition Education Field Trip Program (coming soon)
Our children’s program offers visiting brick and mortar school and homeschooled children a curriculum of ecological, academic and culinary lessons to build scientific literacy and environmental awareness, while encouraging youth to explore the interrelationships between a quality diet, sustainable agriculture, and healthy living.
To further the impact of this program, we will also provide trainings and support to teachers and schools to help leverage school gardens as teaching tools and to improve school wellness policies and initiatives.
